About Us

Kilmarnock & District History Group was formed in 1972 with the aim of fostering an interest in history, in particular the history of the Kilmarnock area, by means of public lectures, conferences, meetings, outings and by publishing papers and books.

Please direct any general enquiries to [email protected]

New members are most welcome. Our annual subscription is £20. Please direct membership queries to  [email protected] or download a membership form HERE

Lectures take place fortnightly on Thursday evenings between October and March with at 7.30pm and will take place at Ayrshire College, Hill Street, Kilmarnock unless otherwise stated. We generally have an attendance of between 75 and 100 members at our meetings which last no more than 90 minutes.

Non-members are welcome to attend any lectures which may appeal to them, but please remember that we have costs to cover and that we usually ask for a £3 donation in our tin at the end of the night.

We are well known for the calibre of our guest speakers who specialise in a wide variety of topics, not just local. Should you have any suggestions for speakers, would like to know about for future talks, or wish to speak to the group about your own specialist area, please contact us at  [email protected]

Whilst we welcome contact from interested parties, we would respectfully advise that we cannot carry out any detailed historical or family research. Please contact  The Burns Monument Centre or East Ayrshire Family History Society who may be able to assist. We are happy to post queries and contact details on our Blog, News page and social media outlets to assist your research.

Any articles or information you would like to share with our members can be sent to [email protected] and will be gratefully received and can published on here if appropriate and agreed.

The Group has a number of publications in print including ' Aspects of Local History 2' and ' Kilmarnock Town Trails'. Please contact us at [email protected]  for further details or to find out if we have a publication which may assist you with your research or interest in local history.
